Why would people react negatively to this topic? Bizarre.
That is right when the Quant MFE programs were gaining traction, and the hedge fund industry was really gaining serious media attention ("Hedgistan", "Behind the Hedge", the new elite, etc). Experienced programmers looking to get into the Math. Moving from back office to front office. Students looking to stay in school for another degree.
Fast forward 5 years, how have the newcomers careers fared? Did your new career meet your expectations? Not what is was cracked up to be? I suppose any responses will suffer from survivorship bias, but I am still curious. Also curious about observations from experienced Quants who saw the influx, and where we are today.
Thanks for any candid experiences, both positive and negative.

| I seem to recall the same discussion in 2002 talking about 1997. |
Solipsism (Listeni/ˈsɒlɨpsɪzəm/; from Latin solus, meaning "alone", and ipse, meaning "self") is the philosophical idea that only one's own mind is sure to exist. |

I finished an FE program in 2010. I've continuously characterized my career thus far as "late to the party." Most people I encounter made a good haul years back and bemoan the current market.
Most of my classmates have not done as well as I, then again I went to a 2nd tier FE program. |
