A few friends and me will attend burning man this year. A friend of mine, who attended several times, advised me to find a "premade" camp with water/food/shower, otherwise the organization from Europe will be complicated.

Does by any chance any of you plan to setup a camp and still have some free spots? If anybody knows someone I can contact, that would be great, too.

As always, thank you NP!

Did you find something, did you attend? Did you like?

The only thing I heard about burning man this year is that some dude decided to jump into the fire. Literally, burning man.

Sounds like a hot event.

Frankly, I never understood the allure of BM. The only burning man I find aesthetically pleasing is at a viking funeral:

I went (way back in '99 when still in Grad school); it's worth going to once if you live in the Bay Area and like camping and dirty people. Even managed to get to know some of the founders a little bit.

A lot of people go to it now for networking purposes; one of my HF clients used to go -flew in using his private plane. Even back in the day, there was a fellow with a bank in Cayman in my camp.

If I had a private jet, I would use it to fly as far away from the Bay Area as possible.

To be fair, his plane was a dual prop.

Oops, I somehow missed this thread and am a little bit late to respond.

Our group joined a camp a few weeks before burning man, so we were lucky. I liked the event very much. There is so much to see there. Most of the people are really great (especially the long-time burners). I like to be in an environment, that is so creative. You bike on the playa and see all this art and these crazy art cars. The no-money concept was very interesting for me. At the moment you do not pay for all the stuff in your life, you start to interact with people differently and this experience had a lasting impact on me. I am a little bit ashamed of that discovery.

Workshops/talks-wise it was so so. Lots of silicon valley nerds that want to ride the blockchain fad or some talks that just haven been covered-up marketing for whatever you may think (remember one about ayahuasca retreats that was exceptionally shitty). But also quite some cool stuff, especially the emotional workshops.

I think I will go again next year :)
