I know that it is a %$@#@&ing nightmarish experience trying to get a job in finance, so I want to say this with as much tact as I can muster out of sensitivity to others even though I am pretty excited (to say the least).

I am officially a Wall Street dude now. I need to thank all of you NP dudes for being so awesome to me. I couldn't have done this without your help. Especially the awesome guy who I will be eternally indebted to for referring me.

Like I said in another thread, I'll do whatever I can to "pay it forward" and keep my eye out for opportunities for other NP dudes.

Speaking of which, I had two interviews while I was in NY. One of them was undecided. They gave me a homework problem and if I solved it, they would probably give me the job. The interview went well, the guys are cool, and if I recommended someone, there is a small chance they'd consider my recommendation. No guarantee though since I am such a small sheah, but I would try do what I can. Just let me know. This is for a hedge fund ($700M) doing mostly convert arb.

Ack!!

What about the gipsy?

I was afraid you were going to ask me that Big Smile

I got to my hotel room (totally exhausted) at around 9pm. I decided to take a little "nap" to get ready for the gypsy. I totally blacked out until 1am. I woke up in a panic, got dressed and thought I'd still take the 45 minute subway ride to Chinatown. The party must go pretty late I thought. I went out to wait for the bus to get to the subway at around 1:30am. There was some scary dude waiting for the bus. He seemed to be talking on his cell phone "Shorty! Shorty yo! Yo shorty!" I kept glancing over to see if he was talking to me (I'm not especially short), but every time I looked over he'd look away and pretend to talk into his cell phone. Then he started again "Yo shorty!! Shorty yo!! Dick head! Shorty! Dick head! Shorty!" He wasn't saying anything at all and I knew he wasn't really talking on the phone either. He was just phucking with me. I waited for more than half an hour for the bus and this dude was getting increasing loud and violent.

After 2am, I figured it'd be close to 3am before I got there. I wasn't especially in a celebratory mood because both my interviews seemed kind of on the fence. Because of that, I didn't really feel like drowning my sorrows either. Besides, I thought it might not be the smartest thing to get on the subway with that psycho dude.

I ended up going back to my room and watching Postman until 4am Confused

Woohoo!! Big Smile

It looks like I will have plenty of opportunities for the gypsy now. I begin in January.

Ok, that's a "good" excuse. But wait, is this to say that not a single NYNP was available for a drink with you on a Thursday night? Chew
Let me know if you want me to send you the phone number of my ex landlord - pretty cool dude, owning 3 buildings in Soho and taking out the garbage himself...

Hey Johnny,

I will be working in market risk analytics (VaR, stress testing, etc). It's a junior role and everyone I met is a high-power science dude/dudette. I think I'm going to love it there. I haven't seen many people offering up their actual employer so I won't give it in the open (due to lurkers like raf_dawg, raoul, etc.). It's not top secret either, so anyone curious can feel free to email me.

Cheers!
Eric

Congratulations, Eric! Dude, that’s awesome! So now you gonna be a regular at our NY gatherings, right?! Sorry, that nobody could hang out on Thursday. As I said in another thread, Thursday was the worst day for me. I’m not as fortunate to get a job in finance just yet Wink, so I do physics adjunct teaching (throughout NYC) for a living, and I teach like 10am-9:30pm on Thursday with short brakes. So had you guys hung out I would have been able to drop by only after 9pm being soooo freaking tired…Anyway, I hope to see you next time our NY crowd meets, and congratulations once again!

I think I'm going to love it there.

Sounds good. Smiley Market risk is a good environment to learn a lot about the business in a short space of time. Congratulations once again.
